Department of Mathematics was established in the year 1923 after a period of 40 years of the birth of Hislop College. Mr. P. J. Chandy, Mr. P. W. Kane, Mr. V. G. Gokhale, Ms. Ushri Guha, and Mr. A. W. Pendharkar, Mr. K. A. Dhanraj, Mr. P. D. Moharir, and Dr. P. S. Muktibodh were eminent faculties.
During Prof. Kane’s tenure “Math-Mag” fortnightly was started by the Department of Mathematics. Ms. U. Guha was the professor-in- charge. She also wrote number of books which were unique in there nature as new mathematics was recently introduced.
Mrs. U. Datta (Guha), the former Vice-Principal (1993-2002), was the first Head of the Department of Mathematics to introduce the academic activities like guest lectures, group discussions, seminars, and quiz on mathematics etc.
Presently, the department is young having Mr. Rishi Agrawal, Mr. Kiran Meghe, Mrs. Pragati Patil, Mrs. Rupali Talole, Mrs. Kiranmary Thorat as the flying wings.
Mr. Rishi Agrawal took over as the Head of the Mathematics Department in the year 2002. He continued the high tradition of the Department and further developed it by enriching Remedial Classes for weak students. In the year 2004, he introduced “GANEET DARSHAN”, a unique technique of teaching mathematics incorporating fundamentals of philosophy together with the Art of Living. Mr. Kiran Meghe has extensively worked on Mathematics Laboratory.
