Social Responsibilities (HISAR)

Hislop Institution of Social Action and Research a unique extension unit of our college. Departmental activities are not restricted within the college; rather it has been extended to the community. Students and staff of the college are participating in various activities organized by the Sociology Department along with HISAR. There are three Balwadi and one sewing class running under HISAR. HISAR provides free education to the slum children and imparts training to slum women for self employment without charging any fees. Set up in 1980 by Ex-principal Dr.T.S.Wilkinson is sponsored by Hislop Education Society (HES) functioning under the Department of Sociology, Hislop College Nagpur.

  • It is an extension programme rendering social services and upliftment of urban poor with emphasis on free education of pre-primary children and vocational training for women and youth for self employment.
  • Main objective of establishing HISAR is to acquaint our staff and students with social work and community services.
  • Slum areas adopted by HISAR are Pandharabodi, Sudam nagari, Jai nagar and Bandewadi dump yard.
  • 3 Balwadi centres and 1 sewing class are running under HISAR.
  • 3 Teachers, 1 trainer for sewing class & a supervisor are presently employed.
