HISLOP COLLEGE, NAGPUR

‘Training the Youth, Shaping the Future, Building the Nation’

Hislop College is not just an institution but a byword for excellence, a synonym for quality, and a signature of the best in higher education.

The story of Hislop College began more than a hundred and fifty years ago, when a young Scottish Missionary, heeding to the call of the Master, Jesus Christ, set out for India with fire in his belly and dreams in his eyes. In 1846, Rev. Stephen Hislop started a boy’s school in old Nagpur with only 30 students. Today, the College is centrally located and is regarded as one of the finest institutions of higher learning in Central India. It offers a large number of under-graduate, post-graduate and doctoral programmes in Arts, Science and Commerce and caters to the needs of over 4000 students each year.

The College is run by the Hislop Education Society under the aegis of the Church of North India Synod. It was the first institution to provide higher education in Vidarbha region and even predates the establishment of RTM Nagpur University.

In 2009, the College celebrated a glorious milestone, its Quasquicentennial Anniversary. The College was one of the 19 institutions across the country to be granted “Heritage” status by the UGC in 2015. In 2016, NAAC reaccredited it as ‘A’ Grade college with 3.31 CGPA. In 2017 the College celebrated the Bicentennial Anniversary of its founder, Rev. Stephen Hislop.

The College is well-known for academic excellence, a vibrant campus life and a robust contribution to the betterment of civic and social life. Its alumni comprise a galaxy of great personalities – from astute leaders and acclaimed scientists to prolific litterateurs and brilliant sportsmen.

Its vision is to improve the quality of life, environment and society by training youth to become agents of growth, innovation and change. Its mission is to make students competent and competitive by imparting them with 21st century knowledge, skills and attitude.
