Department of Botany

The Department of Botany, Hislop College is one of the oldest Botany Departments in Central India. With an infrastructure to reckon with, this Department is the best place for students in love with both basic and applied aspects of plant sciences. The team Botany takes it as its mission to instill love for nature in the young minds and inspire pursuit for higher studies.

Hislop Education Society laid the foundation of Post Graduate and Research laboratories after attaining recognition from RTM Nagpur University in 2005. The department is recognized as a Centre for Higher Learning and offers a Doctoral Research in the spheres of Paleobotany, Ecology, Tissue Cultural techniques, Phycology, Palynology, Cytology & Genetics, Secondary Metabolism, Plant defense, Phytochemistry, and Pharmacognosy. Research projects sponsored by UGC and DAE have been carried out by the faculty members in this department.

The Botany Department also runs short-term, UGC recognized Career Oriented Courses in Floriculture and Mushroom Cultivation. The vision of the course is to inculcate environmental awareness while imparting socio-economic empowerment. Training programmes in Plant Tissue Culture and Plant Molecular Biology are also conducted.

The department holds a Flower & Plant Show in the first week of December, every year. With a foot-fall of thousands, this show is one of the most looked forward events in the city. The department also provides consultancy on Landscaping and Floriculture.
