The Department of Botany engages in two UGC approved Skill Development Programmes. These programmes are held under the banner of Career Oriented Course in two botanically relevant areas of Floriculture & Mushroom Cultivation. The 300 hr curriculum design addresses the basic requirements of a small scale industry. The vision of the course is to inculcate environmental awareness while imparting socio-economic empowerment.

CAREER ORIENTED COURSE: Floriculture

Floriculture and Landscaping is now expanding rapidly as an Industry. In an effort to present a coherent image of this contemporary topic and familiarize the students to the practical aspect of growing ornamental plants and perspectives of landscaping, the department runs a COC in Floriculture.

The objective highlights of this Course program are the following:

• Impart practical training on the various techniques used for Floriculture and Landscaping.
• Extend knowledge on Maintenance, Watering Schedule / Drainage, Weeding, Hoeing and Protection.
• Educate on the Designing and Execution features of Gardening / Landscape including selection of green Plants and Flowers, Lawns, Natural elements of Landscapes, Stones and Pebbles etc.

CAREER ORIENTED COURSE: Mushroom Cultivation

With a motive of developing a socio-economically empowering skill, the department runs a COC in Mushroom Cultivation.

This Course program encompasses the following features:

• Empowering students, with an alternative source of income.
• Imparting hands-on training on the techniques of edible mushroom cultivation.
• Training on sterilization, maintenance and harvest of mushroom crop.
• Training in basic laboratory techniques essential for mushroom cultivation.

CAREER ORIENTED COURSE: : Data Science with R

The Department of Statistics, Hislop College has signed MoU with A. I. Analytics, Pune, Ed-tech Organization for Data Science and Artificial intelligence on 12th January 2019. This MoU leads to conduction of a three-week training course on “Data Science with R” for the Final year students of Statistics from 14th January 2019. The objective of the course is to spread awareness about recent trend in Data Science and Machine Learning. The Course has an employment-oriented approach and is based on a detailed research of companies’ requirements. The course aims at training the students for job profile of Data Analyst / Scientist or Business Analyst. Students are trained for using Advanced Excel & Tableau – Data visualization, Data Science with R. The students will be benefited with Internship on completion of the program and will be issued certificate acknowledged by CSI.
