Women’s Studies and Development Centre
The overall aim of Women’s Studies and Development Centre focuses to develop all spheres of the student’s life so that they can actualize their true potential and excel in today’s competitive world. Our desire is to inculcate in them a sense of social responsibility, and empathy towards their colleagues and peers, alike. This is a platform to sensitize and create awareness to social problems, and challenges faced by women, and to deliver various women development programs.
Aims & Objectives
- To make available the resources of the educational institution for the survey, study, and resolution of women’s issues.
- To sensitize students about women’s issues and to provide them with a platform for conducting action research.
- To empower students with life skills through Personality Development Programs.
Membership is open to all the students. (Boys and Girls)
Incentive Marks
- Incentive Marks of upto10 will be given to the Semester- I students (UG & PG) by RTM Nagpur University on submission of Case studies to the Department of Lifelong Learning, Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Nagpur and participating in the programmes conducted by the Cell.
- Incentive Marks of 2 will be given to the Semester III and Semester V students (UG) and Semester III (PG) for participating in the programmes conducted by the Cell.

Activities of the Cell
2020-2021
- An awareness talk on Gender sensitization on the topic “Understanding Gender: Looking beyond He/She” was delivered by Dr. (Mrs.) Priya Rajkumar, PG Department of Psychology, Hislop College, Nagpur on 8th December 2020.
- Webinar on “Unknot yourself before you tie the knot: Premarital Counseling and Women Empowerment” to mark the International Women’s Day 2021 on the 8th of March 2021. The talk was delivered by Dr. Manjusha Kanade, Counsellor, Family Court, Nagpur.
2019-2020
- A talk on the topic ‘Gender Development’ was delivered by Dr. (Mrs.) Sneha V. Deshpande, Professor & Head, Department of Economics and Director, Centre for Women’s Studies, Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Nagpur on 20th August 2019
- Workshop on Gender Sensitization was held on 23rd September 2019.
- An awareness programme was conducted on ‘Sexual Diversity and Gender Identities’ in collaboration with the Department of Sociology on 4th February 2020.
- Talk on ‘Infertility and Nutrition was conducted on 24th January 2020.
- To commemorate International Women’s Day an awareness talk was held on 7th March 2020 on ‘Health and Wellbeing.
- A 30-hour Certificate course in Women’s Studies: Gender Studies and Women’s Development was conducted for the student members of the Cell.
2018-2019
- A talk on the topic ‘Introduction to Sexual Harassment Law’ was delivered by Dr. (Mrs.) Varsha V. Deshpande, Assistant Professor, Dr. Ambedkar Law College, Nagpur on 18th August 2019.
- To create awareness on Women empowerment, Feminism and Sexual Harassment, a Film Fest was organized on 19th, 21st and 22nd September 2019.
- Awareness programmes on ‘Sickle Cell disease’ was conducted for the members on 28th December 2019.
- On International Women’s Day, 8th March 2019 a talk on Breast Cancer was held to make the members aware of the disease.
- A workshop on ‘Life Enrichment Skills’ was conducted for the student members on 6th March 2019.
- A foundation course in Women’s Studies was conducted for the members between 29th March 2019 and 5th April 2019.
2017-2018
- A talk on ‘Gender Sensitization’ was delivered by Ms. Maitrey Jichkar, Trustee- Sandipani School and the Founder of Dr. Shrikant Jichkar Foundation and Zero Gravity at the inaugural session.
- A workshop on “Personality Development” was conducted as part of the Women’s Day celebrations by Mr. John Landge, Master Trainer of Human Resource Development, to improve one’s life skills and personality.
- An awareness programme was also conducted for the students on ‘Sex and Myths’ by Miss. Shruti Kulkarni of M. A. Psychology.
