Hislop College was established in the year 1883 and it was affiliated to the Nagpur University in the year 1923 when the Nagpur University was established. Hindi was taught in Hislop College from its beginning, later on Hindi Literature was also introduced. Dr.Vishwanath Prasad Shrivastava was the first HOD of the Department of Hindi appointed in the year 1941. In the year 1976 Maharashtra govt. had introduced 10+2 a new educational system. Post Graduate Hindi Literature course was started in the Department from 9th Aug. 2000 and still it’s going on. We have a tradition of producing meritorious student every year.
Dr. V. P. Shrivastava had taken interview of Dr. Kamalkant Pathak the first HOD of Hindi Department of Nagpur University. Under the headship of Dr. V. P. Shrivastava (1941 – 1976), Dr. H. R. Thakur (1976 – 1985), Dr. Omprakash Mishra (1985 – 2004) and Dr. Ms. A.R. Joseph (2004 to till date) the department is functioning very smoothly.
